Happy 4th of July!

We have people in jail who are not charged with crimes.
We have our troops in a foreign land, fighting and dying for profit.
We have more people upset about gas prices than they are with the state of health care in this country.
We are looked on by the rest of the world as an aggressive nation.
We are giving telecom companies immunity for cooperating with a presidency that was spying on US Citizens without a warrant.
Our dollar is in the toilet.
We treat the Constitution like it's a suggestion (it was funny with the handgun law in Washington, though. Man, 4th Amendment be damned, but don't mess with the 2nd! [which strangely enough, I agree with]).

So here I am. On the most patriotic of holidays. Never so ashamed.

Declaration of Independence

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

That stuff just sounds great, doesn't it?

I always agreed with the idea of giving Iraq our constitution if they needed one so badly. It's beautifully written, served our nation well for over 200 years, and heck, it's not like we're even using it anymore.

Well put...not too political at all. I think we all need to be reminded of where this whole democracy started once and a while.
