It's not easy being "green" ....

Well, my hippiness just keeps on growing. A few days ago, I looked at the wife and said "Maybe we should not buy so many paper towels".

This has been a long transformation to me. For the first time, I actually have a recycling bin and am even using it. Somethings I know are bad, but are just too damn hard to let go of. I tried to go over the the "Seventh Generation" dishwasher soap. yeah.... that stuff just doesn't work.

But, I'm trying where I can.

If everyone just tried a bit, it helps. I drink about 3 Gallons of milk a week, Just adding up those jugs started to bother me. How much trash I'm producing and that's just off of one thing.

So for all you tofu munching, patchuli stinkin hippies out there. Thanks. I might not be perfect, but I keep trying to add a little "social responsibility" to my agenda each and every day. I support others doing the same.

Oh, and if you haven't yet ..... Register to Vote!

I'm shocked as shit to see an Obama ticket. I can't even begin to say how important this is. If McCain goes into office, we will have 4 more years of a Republican agenda. Please take a look at the mess we are in. We don't need to go in any further.

And on my last little note. Thank you to everyone who reads this. I was amazed to see some comments on my last post (Thanks, Ms. Robin from across the pond). It's nice to know someone is listening. I read all my comments. Even if you don't agree I love hearing from you. Keep talking. Sometimes it's all we got, but it's a hell of a start.

I get greener and greener by the day. I don't use any more plastic bags- I only use cloth grocery bags. I also stopped using paper towels and paper napkins. We use cloth now. I know you probably don't have any grocery chains, like Publix, down there, but they make toilet paper that is from recycled material. It's the Publix Greenwise brand. If I do need cloth napkins, I use those too. I'm about to embark on vermicomposting- composting using a worm bin! Dave and I made the bin last night- as soon as I get the worms, I'm going to blog about it. I'm going to be part of the "Green Team" at school next year and plan on installing a worm bin in my classroom to compost the leftover fruits and veggies from my students lunches. Glad to see you're green too and glad to see you're an Obama fan like me!

P.S. Switch to organic milk. It's MUCH better for you and the cartons are biodegradable, unlike the jugs. :)

Will wonders never cease.........(no thanks, I already have a box of 'gofuckyourself') Good on ya dude! We are redefining the word hippie, we're not dirty hippies, we're 'green' hippies.

Awesome, Landon. Join the dirty hippie crowd. Would you believe I set up my composter last night after I weeded my garden? :)

Hope all is well in key west. I love the vibe I get from the pictures of you & JoEll on your flickr pictures. You two seem so happy and honestly enjoying life. I am so glad to see all of JoEll's smiles. :D Yours, too.

Try Chico bags found online(chicobags.com) or at Fausto's. Ultra compact plastic bags made from recycled plastics, that carry 18 pounds of groceries each, they fit in your pocket and can be sent back to Chicobags for recycling into more Chico bags when eventually they wear out. They do tend to label the bearer as a dirty hippy I suppose- when will that tired old stereotype die a death?
