Ganesha Dance Theatre At the Waterfront Playhouse

Last night I had the privilege to go to the opening night of the Ganesha Dance Theatre at the Waterfront Playhouse.

Let me preface this little review with saying that I am not one that normally flocks to a "dance show".

I've always seen dance as a language that the whole human race understands, but only select people can truly speak it. Of course it is universal. We run around flailing our arms about in our youth. Some, such as myself, continue to flail around to this day and call it "dancing".

But just as with any language, there are those who can speak it with such eloquence, that you become lost in the stories that they tell. This is the case with the Ganesha Dance Theatre. Everything from ballet to kung fu inspired dance to African. There was even a wonderful Tom Wait's song called "Little Drop of Poison" that was a personal favorite.

Andre Harper, Denis Hyland, Mary Kay Lee, Kyla Piscopink and Leigh Pujado should all be very proud of this wonderful show. The lights by Rich Simone really capped off the show offering a wonderful layer to this already spectacular piece.

Danny Weathers should be commended for taking a risk by putting a dance company into his regular season. It offers a wonderful venue to see some very talented performers. Hopefully this will expand their audience and they will catch them at whatever venue they perform in.

Go See this show! Go Give some money to the Waterfront! Give Some money to the Ganesha Dance Company. We need this more and more in Key West. Support risks and support the arts.

Once again, I was blown away. It was so wonderful. If I was in town this upcoming week, I would go to see it again.

(insert standing ovation here).
