Broadway Local One Stops Work .....

I've worked with some guys from Local One.... I'm just curious on when they STARTED working.

Unions are a good thing. Well, most of the time.

As many of you know, I'm not well received by the Wardrobe Union back up in NYC. It really came down to a choice on who was going to screw me harder, The Theater I was working for (who at the time were not under a Union Contract) or the Union that wanted in to that theater. I figured, at least with the theater I had a card in my hand to get some things that I wanted. The union swooped in with some good promises and then promptly backed out on all of them because the theater was under a Not For Profit contract. So everyone got screwed.

I'm just not good at anyone telling me when I can work. When I can't work. What I can do, What I am not allowed to touch, blah blah blah.

This is why I am not union I guess.

I have friends that are. I respect their choices.

Good luck with your strike guys. I wish you only the best. Now if you could just hurry up and drive that last nail into B'Ways' coffin, let's go ahead and put that bitch out of her misery before someone comes up with an idea to adapt "Schindler's List" into a musical.

And as for TV... man I can't wait to get my hands on some more reality television.

As your best local 1 friend, i will give you a hearty, yet friendly "bite me." That view of stagehands is entirely justified... if you still live in the 80's. the strike was about the producers trying to eliminate jobs, not about money. and the most publicized aspect, The Grinch musical, was all about them not us. local 1 stepped up and agreed to do that one because of its special contract and limited run, but the producers did an about face at the 11th hour and wouldnt let the show go on. then blamed us for all the teary children. it took a judge to make them open it again. Do you think if they had succeeded in eliminating all those jobs that it would have been reflected in ticket prices or just a nicer house in the hamptons for them? Oh and for all you out there who hear on the news that starting wages for us is 75 grand/year. thats true if you are in the 5% who have a year round gig and work at least 60 hours a week like say, The Met Opera or, um, the Met Opera.
glad we got that sorted out, now, WHERE"S MY LIMO?
fight the power and kill whitey.

ok i must allow that when Landon and I worked together on the way of broadness it was for the lowest paying theater in the city by far, and outside of us dedicated young turks, only the dregs of the biz woud work for that money. So i cant fault him for his opinions since i shared it at the time, but as a rule it isnt like that.
NOW WHERE"S MY MASSEUSE? NOT THE UGLY ONE AGAIN EITHER!
