Ever since the first moment I pulled on to the internet I was hooked. The abundance of information. The ability to communicate with so many different people that share your interests is an amazing feat. We are living in fascinating times and I, for one, can't wait to see what's around the corner.
It all started off when I was visiting my father in ATL. I didn't have a computer yet, but I used his to get on the internet and start looking up stuff. AltaVista might have been the search engine I used but I can't really remember. Chat Rooms were huge. Music. Just anything you could think of you could find (including a rather shady dirty site which proceeded to disconnect his modem and dial Russia without making a sound, but that's another story for another time),
Eventually my father sent me a used computer from his office. Thankfully whatever co worker of his set this thing up did a terrible job. It was running Windows 3.1 (which was old, but not completely out of date yet). I had to work so damn hard to do some of the most simple tasks. In retrospect, I wouldn't know half as much about a computer today if I had started on one that just ran flawlessly.
I was part of a Chat Site called The Globe. Chatting with people from all over the world. It was amazing! It seems that they sold off that domain a long time ago.
To this day I'm still hooked to the amounts of knowledge out there. I don't really know shit about computers, but I know how to type an error into a search window and cruise forums written by people having the same issue I am.
I can't even imagine my life without the internet. TV I could live without. An internet connection is not an option (I'm even a little pissy that I can't get the top of the line connection from AT&T).
So I raise a beer to the internet. Porn, Games, Illegal Downloads and all the other more minor things.
