People start getting the jitters when something starts forming out in the Atlantic. I had this nice (albeit somewhat panicky) lady in from Jersey last week giving me the run down of every tropical wave that was cruising through the Atlantic.
Before the nasty Hurricane Season of 2005 I don't think anyone knew what a Tropical Wave was. Now people watch them like they are pedophiles hanging around a schoolyard. Just waiting for them to turn into a hurricane and attack us. As a matter of fact. You know that hurricanes are probably Al Queda and sent over from Iraq to destroy us.
The truth of it is that they are bad storms that we need to keep an eye on. That's all. Be prepared for it. Dean is DAYS away, maybe even a week from here. They have no idea where it'll end up. The three day forecasts are where you can really start to get an idea. If it turns our way, we'll start getting everything ready and taking the necessary precautions whether that means boarding up or getting out.
I think 24 hour news has done a number on us. It used to be that we got a dose in the morning with a newspaper, then maybe a 1 hour dose of the nightly news on TV and that was it. Now we need 24 hours full of Paris Hilton Stories, Who won American Idol, and every little thing that goes on in this country to make sure that the populace is kept scared shitless most of the time.
Dean. It's a storm. Here is my favorite link to all of the "unflavored" information. Every Chart, Graph, Computer Model and Image of a storm you could ever want on one handy page**

Huricane Dean will not only be going to New Hampshire ... he's going to South Carolina and Oklahoma and Arizona and North Dakota and New Mexico, and he's going to California and Texas and New York! And he's going to South Dakota and Oregon and Washington and Michigan. And then he's going to Washington, D.C. to take back the White House, Yeeeeeaaaaaargh!
