Get out of jail free ...

Kinda disgusting isn't it?

Statement by the President on Executive Clemency for Lewis Libby

I'm still getting used to this the "laws don't matter" focus of the current administration.

"I respect the jury's verdict. But I have concluded that the prison sentence given to Mr. Libby is excessive. Therefore, I am commuting the portion of Mr. Libby's sentence that required him to spend thirty months in prison.

My decision to commute his prison sentence leaves in place a harsh punishment for Mr. Libby. The reputation he gained through his years of public service and professional work in the legal community is forever damaged. His wife and young children have also suffered immensely. He will remain on probation. The significant fines imposed by the judge will remain in effect. The consequences of his felony conviction on his former life as a lawyer, public servant, and private citizen will be long-lasting.

The Constitution gives the President the power of clemency to be used when he deems it to be warranted. It is my judgment that a commutation of the prison term in Mr. Libby's case is an appropriate exercise of this power.
"

I just don't understand. Maybe I'm stupid or something. Let me see here.

I get caught with an ounce of pot in Florida and a pipe to smoke it with and I'm looking at 6 years in jail and massive fines. On the other hand, as long as I'm a good citizen and only committed perjury, obstruction of justice and lying to investigators then all is ok.

But what it comes down to is that Americans are Stupid, Fat and Lazy. As long as they get a cheeseburger in their hands, they are ok. Enough of you people voted for him. I went out and made my voice heard, I will again. But sometimes I wonder if this country is even worth saving, or if we deserve everything we're getting.

Oh and dont forget the whole paris hilton jail sentance thing either, some poor scmuck caught out doing the same thing will be in the big house for years as opposed to the poor little thing that was in jail for all of 23 days and had a life altering experiance.

when Bush was guv of Texas, more people were put to death by the state than any other governor in US history. I think he may have commuted one or two sentences in his entire tenure. Generally, he can't be bothered.

This is payback. Scooter took one for the team. He's being kept out of jail for quid pro quo. He'll be pardoned before Bush leaves office. They just can't give him a full pardon 'til after the next election cycle. Wouldn't look good.

politics as usual.

And I can't remember who said it, but Democracies get the leaders they deserve. We have only ourselves to blame.
