Well, I've been absent. That puts it lightly. Not sure why, just haven't been inspired. People haven't pissed me off enough, or pissed me off too much. I don't know.
Life is good. Storms have been quiet out there in the ocean, so I just consider that a big fat blessing and move on. The guest houses are good, just slowing down a little bit.
That has it's plus side and minus side. The plus being that I'm not juggling 14 things over the course of the day. The downside is that the money isn't flowing in like it does in the winter.
I love new toys and even with my past experiences with Apple, I thought the iPhone looked sexy as hell. I've never been down on them for their design. Always the best in the business. There was even a fleeting moment where I considered getting one. I've been wanting a mobile device, not really for phone calls, but for access to the internet, e-mail, messages, things like that. I'm not a "chatter". As anyone who knows me can attest, I'm not one to hang on the phone and catch up. Drop me an email and I'll get back much sooner. As far as having phone conversations, I'm just not any good at them.
So the iPhone .... so pretty. Looks very cool but I can't bring myself to do it. I shopped around carriers just for a normal PDA phone and I haven't run into a single person who says "My Cell Phone Company Rocks!!!". Verizon, Sprint, and worst of all AT&T. Right now why on earth would I want to sign up for another monthly bill from a company that I know I won't receive any support from whatsoever. I know that when I call AT&T if I have a question or something goes wrong, they will route that call to India faster than you can say Curry in a Hurry!
I'm not thrilled that my home phone and service is now AT&T (it used to be Bellsouth). Thinking of a way to get rid of that too.
So for now I just have my usual Palm Pilot. I've upgraded to a WiFi one so I can check e-mail and stuff whenever I am near an open network, which I can find on occasion.
As for the iPhone, I'll just wait and see. Apple doesn't have the best "first generation" record either. I bought a Dual 450mhz G4 when it came out. By the time they released software that took advantage of it, unfortunately it was just too slow. Hopefully I'll eat all these words. Maybe this phone will be the coolest thing ever! But the iPod still hasn't captured me (I can use one music store and that's it!?!) and the iPhone seems to be playing the same game (I can use one cellular service AND one music store now!??!). I like choice. That way is someone screws me over, I can go to another company. It just makes sense.
Now I'm off to sit on the front porch and yell at the neighbor kids to get off my lawn... old man rant over.
