So BAT BOY: THE MUSICAL seems like it's starting to pick up some steam. After a tiny little house the other night, they are getting bigger and bigger and seem to be "getting it" more and more.
One couple left feeling that the townspeople were too mean to Bat Boy. That's kind of the point. The townspeople aren't really sympathetic characters. They are ignorant yokels who are terrified of something that is different from them.
David Sloan wrote a good article regarding Bat Boy in yesterday's Paradise (I'll link it as soon as I can, and buy David's Books). Under all the blood, laughs, kick lines, confusing puppets and the rest of this extravaganza, there is a story of just wanting to be accepted in a society that is afraid of being different.
If that fits in anywhere. It would be Key West. Many of us are here because the "real world" doesn't hold any interest for us. So, I guess we're just an island full of Bat Boys .....
either that ... or I'm just shamelessly trying to sell some tickets to my show.
not sure what would give you that idea though.
